Guest-lectures of prof. Christopher Martin (University of Auckland)
Prof. Christopher Martin from the University of Auckland, world-famous specialist in medieval logic, visited the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw at the end of April 2023.
On April 27, prof. Martin delivered a lecture entitled “Impossible Thought Experiments and the Foundations of Metaphysics.” On the next day, he took part in an international seminar carried out by prof. Magdalena Bieniak and prof. Irene Binini, and presented his latest results concerning Peter Abelards’s logic and ontology.
Christopher Martin is a historian of logic, highly regarded in the international scientific community, especially for his groundbreaking work on Boethius and Abelard. He studied e.g. issues such as the use of Avicenna’s “Flying Man” argument in late scholastic times, and the nature of logical implication.
