I am pleased to inform you that, as part of funding from the Mentor Program (BOB-IDUB-662-837/2023), Dr. Ralph Weir from the University of Lincoln, invited by the Department of Philosophy of Culture, will give a lecture open to the University audience entitled “Science and the Soul.” The lecture will take place on November 15, 2023 at the Faculty of Philosophy at 4:45 p.m. in the Maria Ossowska Hall. The lecture will be held in English.

Dr Ralph Stefan Weir will ask what a culturally and scientifically informed person should think about the idea of the soul. He will discuss a number of common misconceptions and reflect on why the idea of the soul evokes such intense hostility in today’s intellectual climate. He will conclude by explaining why he thinks the idea of the soul is here to stay.

Dr Ralph Stefan Weir is Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Lincoln, and an Associate Member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. He is author of The Mind-Body Problem and Metaphysics: An Argument from Consciousness to Mental Substance (Routledge 2023).
