Building on the experience and success of our first summer school “The Role of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Research and the Encounter of European Societies” (Graz, July 12-18, 2021), we will organize the second summer school at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek in July 10-15, 2023. The participants will once again be students and teachers of partner institutions within the CEEPUS network “Philosophy and Interdisciplinarity” (which comprises 25 institutions in 14 Central and South-East European countries). The Croatian CEEPUS Office (host NCO) will organize free accommodation in Osijek dormitories and give per-diem allowance (200 kunas, app. 26,60 euros per day) for all foreign participants (enough for food and other daily necessities). Most home NCOs reimburse the travel costs. The accommodation and travel expenses of Croatian teachers and students from Zagreb and Split as well as uncovered travel costs of foreign participants will be reimbursed through extra funding for the summer school that will be procured by the Osijek Faculty, University, County Prefect and/or Mayor. Since the Croatian NCO has so far been awarding for summer schools 1 or 2 student mobilities and 1 teacher mobility per partner institution within a network, we encourage groups of 2-5 students from a single partner institution. Up to two teachers per partner institution (if the budget of the Croatian NCO allows!) may take part in the summer school as lecturers. The lecture topics should cover one of the following fields:
1) interdisciplinary dimensions of past, present, and future philosophical endeavours,
2) philosophy of interdisciplinary research (in theory and practice),
3) philosophical evaluation of a selected interdisciplinary field and of philosophy’s real or potential role within it,
4) interdisciplinary approaches to current big issues that are both socially and philosophically relevant (e.g., global warming and other environmental issues, pandemics and other health issues, energy crisis, issues with contemporary democracies, migration, multiculturalism, prospects of higher education in general and humanities and philosophy in particular).
The two main organizers are Demian Papo, the local network coordinator of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, and Ljudevit Fran Ježić, the main network coordinator (Zagreb). For key-note speakers on philosophy of interdisciplinarity one or two distinguished scholars from abroad will be invited. As for the local audience, the summer school will be attended by a few dozen of philosophy students who took part in courses on philosophy of interdisciplinarity at the Department of Philosophy in Osijek over the past years.
