Seminar by Professor Kenneth W. Stikkers in Institute of Philosophy of the University of Warsaw

Department of Philosophy of Culture (IF UW) and the coordinator of the studies Philosophy of Being Cognition & Value invites for the seminar entitled:

History of American Philosophy, from Puritanism to Pragmatism

The seminar will be a critical overview of the history of American philosophy, and its cultural background, from its roots in the Reformation to its maturity in Pragmatism. It will identify dominant continuities and themes in that history as well as major shifts and changes.  It will examine both the main social and political conditions to which American philosophy responded and how it in turn has contributed to the shaping of American history and American mind.

Professor Kenneth W. Stikkers – Professor of Philosophy and Africana Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Professor of Social Science at Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Mexico. He is the internationally recognized scholar whose main areas of expertise besides American and African-American philosophy are philosophy of economics, philosophy of race as well as contemporary continental thought (Scheler, Foucault). He is the author of “Utopian Visions Past, Present and Future: Rethinking the Ethical Foundations of Economy” and “Economics as Moral Philosophy”.
